How to Take Care of Your Permanent Hair Extensions?

Hair extensions are a great way to add volume to your hair and accentuate its look. Celebrities often use them to amplify the glam quotient. Just as your natural hair, your hair extensions too need a certain amount of care. If you take good care of your permanent hair extensions, you’re bound to sizzle every time you step out of your house – when going for a party, on a date or just grocery shopping! Here are a few ways through which you can keep your permanent hair extensions as smooth and shiny as ever:

  • Treat them like Your Natural Hair: Be gentle on your hair and extensions when taking a shower. Always use a moisturizing formula shampoo. Moisture is vital for your hair. So, using a shampoo that moisturizes more, will be better for your hair.
  • Use Sulfate-Free Shampoo: Sulfates are the cleaning agents that cause foaming when you are using shampoo on your hair. Though they are effective cleaners, they can lead to the drying of the natural oils in your hair which can, in turn, make your tresses look frizzy and unkempt. Moreover, they can cause the formation of split ends in your hair. Your body is constantly producing new oils for your naturally growing hair but since your extensions do not have a direct supply to that oil, you need to be extra careful about them drying out.
  • Use Conditioner: Did you know that each strand of your hair has a cuticle layer? This layer not only acts as a protective shield but also reflects the sun’s rays which makes your hair shine! However, as the day progresses, this cuticle layer breaks down leaving your hair looking dull. Now, conditioners come into the picture as they work at repairing the cutile layer, thereby giving your hair its sheen back!! So, you need to make sure that you apply the conditioner all through the roots of your hair.
  • Dry Your Hair: Blow-dry your hair completely before you could hit the bed. Never go to bed with wet hair extensions as they could lead to the formation of tangles. To ensure that your hair dries completely, it is recommended that you sit under a hooded dryer. The amount of time that you spend under the dryer totally depends on the thickness and texture of your hair as well as the density of the permanent hair extensions.
